The Prophet (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

«He is not one of us who does not recite the Qur.aan in a melodious voice when reciting it out aloud.» – transmitted by al-Bukhaaree

And it was said to Ibn Abee Mulaykah:

O Abu Muhammad, and what if he does not have a good voice? He replied:

[Then] he should beautify it as much as possible.

From the signs of a relapse [in your eemaan] is that:

  • you hear the adhaan, and do not respond [by attending the prayer];
  • you miss the Fajr prayer, and are not concerned [about it];
  • you have abandoned [reading] the Qur.aan, and are not afraid [of the consequences];
  • you are prevented from good, and are not concerned [about it];
  • you are prevented from the companionship of the righteous, and do not miss it;
  • you sin, and do not feel sad [about it];
  • you have not set yourself a daily portion of [reading the] Qur.aan or [engaging in] tasbeeh, and do not feel you are missing [anything];

So O Allaah, [we ask you for] firmness [upon the religion], for indeed the hearts are [all] in Your Hands.

Shaykh Saalih Aal ash-Shaykh said:

A day passes you by and you have not [even] opened the mus.haf [to read it].

[This is indeed] a tragedy in the [complete] sense of [the word] tragedy; that is because the Qur.aan is the Speech of Allaah.

Shaykh Saalih al-‘Usaymee mentioned that some of the Salaf would say:

The darkness of the night is illumination for the heart.

In other words, hidden acts of worship [done] at night, [such as] the night prayer, [engaging in] supplication, and reading the Qur.aan – [all] benefit the heart more than some of the visible [acts of] worship [done in the presence of] the people.
